Bostoni Eesti Kool Pandeemia Ajastul / Boston Estonian School in a Pandemic Age

Enne kui eesti kool sel aastal algas, tulid Bostoni Eesti Kooli õpetajad kokku, et arutada, kuidas sel aastal kooli korraldada. Seoses pandeemiaga, mis praegu maailmas ringi käib, on see kirik, mida me oleme aastaid kooliks kasutanud, suletud, ja me pidime valima ühe teise koha, kus meie eesti kooli pidada. Otsustati, et niikaua, kui õues on veel ilus ilm, saame kokku looduses, sest ülejäänud aasta peame kooli pidama virtuaalselt zoomi vahendusel. Aastaid tagasi käisime kooliga ühes kohas nimega Purgatory Chasm (Massachusetts State Park), et lihtsalt kooliväliselt kokku saada ja looduses ringi kõndida. See koht on kooliks ideaalne. Seal on palju ruumi ja värsket õhku, seal on ka pikniku lauad kus saaks teha klasse, igal klassirühmal on oma laud. Ja iga pere võtab kaasa oma pikniku lõuna.
Sel aastal õpetajad valisidki selle koha, et eesti kooli pidada. Meie esimene koolipäev, kui me seal kokku saime, oli 13. septembril. Kahel esimesel koolipäeval saime kokku kahel järjestikusel pühapäeval, mitte nagu meie tavaline kool kui me saame kokku igal teisel pühapäeval. See esimene kokkusaamine oli rohkem nagu suvelõpu tähistamine. Rääkisime kõigest, mida me suvel tegime ja mida me sel aastal koolis teha plaanime. Praeguseks oleme seal kaunis kohas kokku saanud juba kolmel korral. Koolipäeval on meil muusika tund, keele tund, pikniku lõuna ja ühine loodusmatk. Kui kõige pisemad koolilapsed oma keeletunniga valmis saavad, mängivad nad tavaliselt omavahel mänguväljakul. Vahest on meil koolis kohal ka mõned nelja-jalgsed õpilased – koerad Boston, Bruno ja Nipsy.
Purgatory Chasm on kaunis looduslik koht, nagu maapealne kivikuristik, kus me jalutasime üle kivide. Kõik lapsed jooksid ette ja jätsid vanemad endast taha poole. Kõige väiksemaid lapsed olid kõige kiiremad ja kogu aeg tahtsid kõike näha ja uurida. Vanemad lasped hoolitsesid väikeste laste eest ja vaatasid, et nendega midagi ei juhtuks. Suuremad lapsed vastasid ka kõigile pisemate laste küsimustele. Kui see rada läbi kivide oli peaaegu läbi, nägid nad ühte lahedat kohta - Lemon Squeeze! See on üks suur kivi milles on väike looduse tekitatud läbipääs või lõhe täpselt keskel. Peaaegu kõik lapsed, ka nende vanemad, käisid sellest kitsast kivipraost läbi.
Tänasel pandeemi-ajastul, mil kõik koolid ja tööd on vituaalselt interneti vahendusel, loodab Bostoni Eesti Kool nii palju kui võimalik teha ka edaspidi koolitunde looduses, et lasped ja ka lapsevanemad saaksid isiklikult inimestega suhelda. Loodame ja ootame veel mitmeid ilusaid sügisesi pühapäevi, et looduses laulda, eesti keeles rääkida ja koos loodust nautida.

Before the Estonian school started this year, teachers from the Estonian School in Boston came together to discuss how to organize the school this year. Due to the pandemic that is currently circulating the world, the church that we have used as a school for years has been closed, and we had to choose another place to hold our Estonian school. It was decided that as long as the weather is still beautiful outside, we will meet in nature, because for the rest of the year we will have to run the school virtually via Zoom. Years ago, we went to a place in the school called Purgatory Chasm (Massachusetts State Park) just to meet outside of school and walk around in the wild. This place is ideal for school. There is plenty of space and fresh air, there are also picnic tables where you have classes with each class group to a table. Each family brings their own picnic lunch. This year, the teachers chose this place to run the Estonian school. Our first day of school was September 13th. On the first two school days, we met on two consecutive Sundays, not like our regular school when we meet every other Sunday. This first meeting was more like celebrating the end of summer. We talked about everything we did in the summer and what we plan to do at school this year. So far, we have met there in a beautiful place three times already. On school day we have a music lesson, a language lesson, a picnic lunch and a nature trip together. When the youngest school children finish their language lessons, they usually play with each other on the playground. Maybe we also have some four-legged students at the school - dogs Boston, Bruno and Nipsy. Purgatory Chasm is a beautiful natural place, with a large rock gorge to walk through. All the children ran ahead and left their parents behind. The youngest children were the fastest and always wanted to see and explore everything. The older children took care of the young children and made sure nothing happened to them. Older children also answered all the questions of younger children. When the trail through the rocks was almost over, they saw one cool place - the Lemon Squeeze! It is one large rock with a small natural passage or gap right in the middle. Almost all the children, including their parents, went through this narrow stone crack. In today's pandemic era, when all schools and work are online, the Boston Estonian School hopes to do as much as possible in the future so that children and parents can interact with people in person. We hope and look forward to many more beautiful autumn Sundays to sing in nature, speak Estonian and enjoy nature together.
