BES tähistas Eesti Vabariigi 108. aastapäeva piduliku koosviibimisega / BES celebrated the 108th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia

Sel aastal kogunes Bostoni Eesti Seltsi rahvas Eesti Vabariigi aastapäeva tähistama 22. veebruaril, Skandinaavia Kultuurikeskusesse, Newtoni linnas, Massachusetts osariigis. Koosviibimine oli südamlik, meeleolukas ja väga pidulik, oli mitmeid kõnesid, muusikat ning rikkalik eestipärane külmlaud.

Aktuse avas BESi ase-president Karina Branzetti tervituskõnega.  Nagu ta mainis oli selleaastane pidu lausa kahe tähtsa sündmuse tähistamiseks: Eesti 108. Iseseisvuspäev ja BESi 90. sünnipäev.  1918. aastal kuulutas Eesti välja oma iseseisvuse, võttes oma õiguspärase koha maailma vabade riikide seas.  Nende 108 aasta jooksul on eesti vaim püsinud – see sama vaim, mis 1936. aastal tõi meie asutajad kokku siinsamas Bostonis, et asutada Bostoni Eesti Selts – üks vanimaid eesti seltse – ja säilitada meie pärand, keel ja traditsioonid kaugel kodumaast.

Eelmisel aastal valis BES uue juhatuse  Uueks presidendiks valiti Airi Tallurit ja asepresidendiks Karina Branzetti.  Seltsi jätkuva arengu sümbolina avalikustati ka uus logo, mis austab seltsi minevikku ja vaatab kindlalt tulevikku.

Kuna 90. aastapäev on tähtis sündmus, mida tuleb väärikalt tähistada, plaanib selts sügisel suurejoonelist pidustust, mille keskmes on fotonäitus, mis tutvustab seltsi 90-aastast rikkalikku ajalugu, sealhulgas inimesi, sündmusi, traditsioone ja hetki, mis on meid muutnud sellisteks, nagu me täna oleme.

Bostoni Eesti Kooli õpilane Enrik Attemann tutvustas kutsutud külalisi. Esimesena õnnitles Läti Aukonsul Bostonis Uldis Karlis Sipols, kes soovis meie rahvale Palju Õnne Vabariigi Aastapäeva puhul. Seejärel tervitas meid südamlikult Dr. Regina Balcaitiene, the LAC New England president (Leedu), ta meenutas Bostoni baltimaalaste koostööd, kui me tähistasime meie sajandat iseseisvuse juubelit 2018 aastal. Ukraina esindaja  li Vsevolod Petriv, President, Ukrainian Congress Committee of America, Bostoni harust.  Seejärel luges BESi juhatuse sekretär Aadu Pirn ette Ameerika Ühendriikide Eesti Rahvuskomiteest saadetud tervitused.

Bostoni Eesti Seltsil oli suur rõõm tervitada peakõnelejat Brigaadikindral Taivo Rõkki, kaitseatašeed. Tema tuli koos abikaasaga Washington D.C.-st meile külla. Brigaadikindrali kaitseteemaline kõne, "Kuidas Eesti ennast kaitsta suudab", oli väga päevakohane ja tugevalt seotud praeguste globaalsete sündmustega.  Austuse märgiks mälestati Eesti ja Ukraina vabadusvõitlejaid ning tuhandeid Ukraina inimesi, kes on hukkunud Venemaa agressiooni tõttu. 

Pidulik programm algas lauludega.  Kõigepealt esinesid Triin Vallaste juhendamisel Bostoni Eesti Kooli lapsed. Epp Sonin, kes on aastaid olnud Bostoni eesti kogukonna muusikaline tugisammas, laulis eesti rahvalikke laule ning saatis publikut klaveril hümnide laulmisel.

Ürituse kava esitati nii eesti kui ka inglise keeles, ja seega said kõik kohalviibijad toredaid elamusi.  Lõppsõna ja BESi teadetega esines Bostoni Eesti Kooli õpilane Hendrik Branzetti.

Bostoni Eesti Seltsi korraldatud Eesti Vabariigi aastapäeva tähistamine oli tore õhtu, täis soojust, muusikat ja häid maitseelamusi. Peolaud oli kaetud koduste hõrgutistega ning peokülaliste rahulolu ja rõõm oli selgelt tajutav.

Suur tänu kõigile korraldajatele ja abilistele, kes aitasid Eesti sünnipäeva nii pidulikult tähistada!

This year, members of the Boston Estonian Society gathered to celebrate the anniversary of the Republic of Estonia on February 22 at the Scandinavian Cultural Center in Newton, Massachusetts. The gathering was heartfelt, lively, and very festive, with several speeches, music, and a rich Estonian-style cold buffet.

The ceremony was opened with a welcome speech by BES Vice President Karina Branzetti. As she mentioned, this year's celebration marked two important events: Estonia's 108th Independence Day and BES's 90th anniversary. In 1918, Estonia declared its independence, taking its rightful place among the free nations of the world. Over the course of these 108 years, the Estonian spirit has remained strong – the same spirit that brought our founders together here in Boston in 1936 to establish the Boston Estonian Society, one of the oldest Estonian societies, and to preserve our heritage, language, and traditions far from our homeland.

Last year, the BES elected a new board. Airi Talluri was elected as the new president and Karina Branzetti as vice president. As a symbol of the society's continued development, a new logo was unveiled, which honors the society's past and looks confidently to the future. As the 90th anniversary is an important event that must be celebrated with dignity, the society is planning a grand celebration in the fall, centered around a photo exhibition showcasing the society's rich 90-year history, including the people, events, traditions, and moments that have made us who we are today.

Enrik Attemann, a student at the Boston Estonian School, introduced the invited guests. The first to congratulate us was Uldis Karlis Sipols, Honorary Consul of Latvia in Boston, who wished our people a happy Independence Day. Next, Dr. Regina Balcaitiene, president of LAC New England (Lithuania), gave a heartfelt welcome and recalled the cooperation between the Baltic communities in Boston when we celebrated our 100th anniversary of independence in 2018. The representative of Ukraine was Vsevolod Petriv, President of the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America, Boston branch. Then, BES Board Secretary Aadu Pirn read greetings sent by the Estonian National Committee of the United States.

The Boston Estonian Society was delighted to welcome keynote speaker Brigadier General Taivo Rõkk, Defense Attaché. He and his wife came to visit us from Washington, D.C. The Brigadier's speech on defense, "How Estonia Can Defend Itself," was very timely and strongly related to current global events. As a sign of respect, the freedom fighters of Estonia and Ukraine were commemorated, as well as the thousands of Ukrainian people who have died as a result of Russian aggression.

The festive program began with songs. First, the children of the Boston Estonian School performed under the guidance of Triin Vallaste. Epp Sonin, who has been the musical pillar of the Boston Estonian community for years, sang Estonian folk songs and accompanied the audience on the piano as they sang hymns.

The event program was presented in both Estonian and English, ensuring that all attendees had an enjoyable experience. Hendrik Branzetti, a student at the Boston Estonian School, gave the closing remarks and read announcements from BES.

The celebration of the anniversary of the Republic of Estonia, organized by the Boston Estonian Society, was a wonderful evening full of warmth, music, and delicious food. The party table was laden with homemade delicacies, and the satisfaction and joy of the party guests was clearly evident. Many thanks to all the organizers and helpers who helped make Estonia's birthday celebration so festive!
