Traditsioonilised Bostoni Eesti Seltsi suvepäevad toimusid seekord 25. ja 26. augustil juba ehk kakskümend korda meile armsalt tuttavas ja lahkes Liivide pere kodurannas.

Päev algas imekauni päikesetõusuga, ilmaennustus oli igati soodne, rannalained sillerdasid kutsuvalt ja telk ning lauadki olid valmis mõnusaks koosolemiseks. Esimesena saabus seltsi president Paul Attemann koos poja Endrikuga ja seadis valmis grilli ning teisedki pisidetailid. Toitude organiseerimise eest hoolitses Ingrid Martins ja abilisi ning toidukausse ning -taldrikuid kogunes rikkalikult. Paul tervitas kokkutulnuid, tutvustas peokava ja -korda ning andis sõnajärje Mart Ojamaale, kes tutvustas Eesti suurimat rändnäitust, mille on kokku pannud Okupatsioonide Muuseum ja kannab pealkirja "Masters of Our Own Homes: Estonia 100". Mart Ojamaa, lahkete annetajate ja Bostoni Eesti Seltsi toel saab näitusega tutvuda Bostonis Rose Kennedy Greenway pargis alates 22. oktoobrist kuni 29. novembrini. Rändnäitus on osa Baltic Centennial'i üritusest, mis leiab aset Bostonis 23-25.Novembril (www.balticboston.com). BES viis läbi ka väga eduka oksjoni, et toetada eelnimetatud üritust.

Peale Orman Becklesi meeleolukalt peetud oksjoni oligi paras aeg head-paremat süüa valida. Pärast toidust toe saamist kogunesid lapsed David ja Kerli Way ümber, kes neile mitmeid toredaid mänge korraldas. Muidugi oli ka köievedu, mille võitsid seltsi kanged naised! Nalja ja naeru jätkus kõigile!

Üllatuse tegi meile Jonas Tarm, kelle juhatuse all avastasime, et saime õige mitme päris keerulise laulu laulmisega hakkama. Aitäh talle kannatliku juhendamise eest! Lauldes ja juttu ajades ei märganudki, et päike hakkas juba silmapiirile vajuma ning oli aeg rannas esivanemate mälestuseks meiegi muinaslõke süüdata ja ühineda teistega, mis valgustasid tol õhtul ka Eestimaa randu (www.muinastuled.ee). Lendasid sädemed ja lendasid mõtted, vaikselt laksus laine, kõrgel säras täiskuu ja lausa iseenesest hakkasid meiegi laulud kõlama - lihtsalt sellepärast, et oli hea olla. Paljud asusid varsti koduteele, kuid nii mõnigi puges telki, et siis pühapäeval jälle ilusat hommikut nautida ja koos kohvi juua. Hoolsa pilguga vaatas Paul veel mängumuru ja ranna üle, et kõik oleks korras ja pererahvale lisatööd ei tekitaks. Suurim tänu Liivide perele ja kõigile, kes selle nädalavahetuse heaks kordaminekuks kaasa aitasid! HRUP

Sunsoaked Summer Days

The Boston Estonian Society's of traditional Summer Days were held on 25 and 26 August, for nearly the twentieth year at the lovely Liiv family home on the beach. The day started with the beautiful sunrise, the weather forecast was favorable in every way, from the inviting beach and the iridescent waves and party tent.

First to arrive was the society's president, Paul Attemann with his son Endrik to prepare the grill and other small details. Ingrid Martins organized the picnic table with many helpers and lots of food. Paul welcomed those present, introduced the day's activities and procedures and then gave the floor to Mart Ojamaa who introduced Estonia's largest traveling exhibition, put together by the Museum of Occupations, and bears the title "Masters of Our Own Homes: Estonia 100". With the kind support of donors and the Boston Estonian Society, the exhibition will arrive in Boston and be installed at the Rose Kennedy Greenway Park from 22 October to 29 November. The traveling exhibition is part of the Baltic Centennial'i event, which takes place in Boston November 23-25. (www.balticboston.com). BES also carried out a very successful auction to support the above-mentioned event. After auctioneer Orman Beckles' lively and funny acution, it was time feast.

After receiving their sustenance, the children and some adults gathered around David and Kerli Way who provided them with a number of great games. Of course, there was a tug-of-war, which was won by the spirit of women! Fun and laughter for everybody! Jonas Tarm surprised the group, who gathered everyone for wonderful choral singing! Thank you for your patience and instruction Jonas! With all the talking, singing and playing, we had not even noticed that the sun began to sink in the horizon, and it was time to go to the beach to commemorate the Night of Ancient Bonfires and honor our ancestors and the sea that binds us with Estonia. (www.muinastuled.ee). Sparks flew as the the dull crash of the waves sparkled under the full moon. Singing and laughter filled the air.

Many soon began the journey home, while some crawled into their tents. Sunday morning was beautiful again and the those who greeted the sun enjoyed a pot of coffee together. Paul and others helped with the clean up to make sure everything would be as they found it, and to make sure everything was in order. A most heartfelt thanks to the Liiv family and everyone who contributed to the weekend's resounding good time!
