Eesti Vabariigi aastapäeva tähistamine Bostonis

19. veebr. oli eestipäraselt krõbe, aga mõnusa päikesepaistega ilm. Bostoni ümbruse eestlased kogunesid taas meile omaseks saanud Walthami kiriku saali pidulikule aktus-kontserdile, tähistamiseks Eesti Vabariigi 88. aastapäeva. Tähtpäeva koosviibimise avas palvusega õp. Kangro, kes oli selleks puhuks Connecticutist meie seltsi tulnud. Aktuse peakõnelejaks oli doktor Madis Raukas, kes esitas sisuka ja rohkesti huvitavaid fakte ning statistilisi võrdlusandmeid sisaldava ettekande eesti tehnilisest arengust. Muusikalist kontsert-osa sisustasid Mike ja Puala Peipman. Tõsisemate ja traditsiooniliste palade lõpuks kuulasime Mike’i särtsakat interpretatsiooni kõigile tuttavast lastelaulust “Uhti-uhti uhkesti!” Kohvilauda olid me perenaised jällegi maitsevate suupistetega rikastanud. Saal oli väheste ja maitsekate elementidega päevakohaselt kaunistatud. Aktuse ja sellelejärgnenud koosviibimise sujuva kulgemise eest hoolitsesid meie noored perenaised. Siinjuures tahaks eriti mainida, et peakorraldajad olid alles mõne aasta eest Eestist saabunud noored, kes oma entusiasmi ja värske hooga on meie seltsile nagu uue elu sisse puhunud.

Estonian Independence Day celebrated in Boston

The weather on the 19th of February was crisp, Estonia-like, but the sunny day turned out to be pleasant. The Boston area Estonians again gathered at the now familiar church hall in Waltham to mark the 88th anniversary of Estonia’s declaration of independence and to enjoy the presentations and the music. The festivities opened with an invocation by pastor V. Kangro, who had come up from Connecticut to join us.
The main speaker was Dr. Madis Raukas, who summarized the current development and progress of technology in Estonia. His presentation was substantial and included lots of interesting facts and statistical
comparisons. The musical part of the program was provided by Mike and Paula Peipman. It consisted of serious and traditional music, followed by a lively, energetic interpretation by Mike of the familiar children’s song “Uhti-uhti uhkesti!” The ladies again provided and set out the tasty refreshments. The hall was decorated simply but tastefully. The following social hour was in the good hands of the young ladies. I would like to call special attention to the fact that the program was set up by Estonian youths who have arrived in this country during the last several years and have with their enthusiasm and fresh drive given new life to
the Boston Estonian Society.

Selleaastane Seltsi aastakoosolek toimub 30. aprillil kohe peale Lihavõtte jumalateenistust Walthami kiriku saalis. Koosolekul annab BES’i juhatus ülevaate
Seltsi eelmise aasta tegevusest. Et Seltsi tulevase aasta tegevuse kavas oleks kõigile midagi meelepärast, tule sinagi plaanima Seltsi tulevasi üritusi ning aita Seltsi üritused oma osalemisega muuta veelgi mitmekesisemaks. Uued ideed on
alati teretulnud.

This year’s annual meeting will take place on the 30th of April at the Covenant Congregational Church fellowship hall after the Easter Church Celebration. Come join the BES leadership for the opportunity to hear an overview of the last year and to help plan the activities for the upcoming year. Everyone is encouraged to not only attend the meeting, but to participate in the planning and organization of BES events.

Nagu Hella Paabuse artiklis mainitud on, tähistas BES Eesti Vabariigi 88. aastapäeva meeldiva kontsert-aktusega, kus kõnelejaks oli dr. Madis Raukas ning
muusikalise poole eest kandsid hoolt Mike ja Paula Peipman ning Epp Sonin. Suured tänud veelkord kõigile, kelle osalemine ja korraldamine taaskordse
Seltsi ürituse nii edukaks tegid.

rounding out a delightful program. Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to making this celebration such a successful event.

Pr. Irja Cilluffo

New Englandi regioonis avati uus Eesti Vabariigi aukonsulaat, Eesti kolmas aukonsulaat Ameerika Ühendriikides. 30. märtsil, 2006, avasid välisministeeriumi konsulaarosakonna peadirektor
Jaanus Kirikmäe ja Eesti peakonsul New Yorgis Peeter Reštšinski Eesti aukonsulaadi New Hampshire’s Portsmouthis. Eesti uus aukonsul Portsmouth’is on
Pr. Irja Cilluffo, kelle konsulaarpiirkonnaks on New Hampshire’i, Massachusettsi ja Rhode Islandi osariigid. 1941. aastal Eestis sündinud Pr. Cilluffo on lõpetanud Zürichi Ärikolledži kaubanduse ja keelte
alal ning alates 1987. aastast elab ta Portsmouth’is ning töötab ühisfirmas Cilluffo Associates, mis tegeleb investeeringutega. Irja Cilluffo räägib inglise, saksa, prantsuse, hispaania ja eesti keelt. Irja Cilluffo on abielus ja tal on kaks last. Aukonsulaadi avaüritustel osales ka hulgaliselt BES’i liikmeid. BES’il on heameel Pr. Cilluffo uue koha üle ning ootab huviga tema osalemist tulevastel BES’i üritustel.

Honorary Consulate
Mrs. Irja Cilluffo

A new Estonian Honorary Consulate has been installed in the New England Region. On March 30, 2006, Estonia opened its third honorary consulate in the USA in Portsmouth, NH. Two Estonian diplomats, Peeter Restsinski and Jaanus Kirikmae, attended the ceremony. Estonia’s new honorary consul in Portsmouth is Mrs. Irja Cilluffo, whose consular region covers New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Rhode
Island. Mrs. Cilluffo was born in Estonia in 1941, she is a graduate of the Zurich Business College in trade and languages. She has lived in Portsmouth since 1987
and works at Cilluffo Associates. Mrs. Cilluffo speaks English, German, French, Spanish, and Estonian. She is
married and has two children. The ceremony celebrating the Honorary Consulate Appointment was attended by many members of the BES and other
Estonians from the area. The BES is very excited for Mrs. Cilluffo and looks forward to continue to see her at our events. Office hours have not yet been established, but she can be reached at the following:

12.-13. augustil Tiina ja Henn Liivi kaunil
koduõuel Rhode Island’il. Loodame,
et kõik seltsilised on sama suures
ootusärevuses nagu meiegi. Nagu
ikka, on ka seekord loota suurepärast
rahvarohket üritust toidu, mängude
ning päikeselise ilmaga. On aeg hakata
varakult mõtlema köieveo võidustrateegiatele.
