The BES website has been created by the Boston Estonian Society as an internet site for the sharing of Estonian history, activities, social information specific to the Boston area and available to all those of Estonian heritage here and abroad.
BES website was originally created in 2002, and updated as possible. The current website was rebuilt in 2010.
BES website contains a large variety of materials (articles, photos, videos, forum entries and commentaries inc.) which belong to The Boston Estonian Society, Inc. once posted.
Rules for website users:
Any materials appearing on this website are meant for those accessing the site and may freely be copied and used, but not sold.
Some illustrations and archival materials’ use may be restricted and are clearly marked as such. Normal copyright rules apply. Please turn to BES for approval to use materials by sending an email to bostoneesti@comcast.net.
Comments and discussions
Articles and commentary are of course open to discussion under democratic principles. BES does not have control over contents of postings, and those postings do not reflect the opinions of BES. Each individual is responsible for the content of their posting.
The internet allows for postings of questionable content which offend the majority of readers. BES reserves the right to delete those postings which are obscene, slanderous, terroristic, racial, attempt to persuade the use of narcotics, etc.
Such comments will be deleted as soon as possible. If the majority of users do not wish the commentary to be removed, the responsibility for those comments remain with the author.
If requested by the police or other governing body, BES is required to reveal the source of offensive material.
BES may implement other methods to prevent subsequent objective postings, including filters, IP address blocking, and advising regulatory authorities.
BES guarantees the privacy re contact email addresses except in the instance of unacceptable commentary which has been reported to authorities. An exception will also be made if an individual posts their own email address for contact purposes.
Bostoneesti.org materials have been compiled by Boston Estonian Society, Inc. Illustrations used are primarily submitted by amateur photographers and archival materials. The intent is to provide a background of Boston area Estonian culture to the readers.
Bostoneesti.org has two primary functions:
- BES newsletter “Bestonian” provides information about past and future activities, and editorial comment.
Theme specific information, such as history, education, music and film.
Published materials may also have links to relative materials. For example, membership applications, or more detail about a specific topic.
Posted materials may provide links to photos, audio and video files which may reside in specific galleries online.
Bostoneesti.org has been created with a variety of users in mind, both in the Boston area and beyond.
